Fuel55,

I appreciate your feedback on my hand postings, this is exactly what i was looking for. Ive been a long term reader of your blog and really enjoy your insight. I do have another question though, I understand the concept of opening any pocket pair as the article states, however it does mention ' more typical of a higher stake game ' at the micro levels that I am playing at, do you find this rule should still apply? Im assuming also in the 10% raise ratio, this would apply directly to your odds of flopping a set.

I looked up an old blog post by a similar name and here is what I wrote:

Set Mining

Sets are the most profitable and easiest hands to play in NL holdem. There I said it. Too many players just fail to maximize their set mining opportunites and the resultant value that comes from hitting a set. Most of your profit in poker will come from sets.

My rules are simple: Raise ANY pair from ANY position and call ANY reraise if the reraised quantity is less than 10% of both your own and your opponent's stack.

Many of you play smaller games where reraising is rare but at $3/6NL and up at least 30% of pots are reraised preflop. As such set mining becomes more and more profitable as the games get bigger.

I don't care if you are in position or out of position, sets play the same the way. Sure it sucks to be reraised if you hold pockets 3's but if you think you opponent has a big pair and he has 10x the bet you need to call behind why wouldn't you call the reraise in every situation? Simply put you must call these reraises.
